A section of the M8 was closed off after a car caught fire near the Clyde Tunnel.

Two fire crews was called out to the blaze under a bridge near to Junction 25 at the Cardonald Interchange at 4.19pm.

Firefighters put out the blaze but there are still lengthy delays for motorists on the eastbound approach. Nobody was injured in the incident.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were alerted at 4.19pm on Thursday to reports of a car on fire on the M8 near to Junction 25, Cardonald Interchange.

"Two appliances were immediately mobilised to the scene and a firefighter in breathing apparatus used one high powered hose to extinguish the flames.

"No one was injured and crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe."
