A man has been arrested after guns and ammunition were found at a house following a bomb alert.

The bomb squad and police were called to Kirkton Avenue in High Blantyre, South Lanarkshire, on Wednesday.

A 49-year-old man was detained following the discovery of guns, ammo and two suspect devices, which were taken away for examination.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "At around 9am on Wednesday, police responded to a report of firearms and ammunition found within a property at Kirkton Avenue, Blantyre.

"The property was searched and two suspect devices were also found.

"The Royal Navy EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal experts) attended to evaluate these devices and they were then removed for examination.

"Numerous items including firearms and ammunition were seized by police and a 49-year-old man was arrested and is currently detained in police custody in connection with the incident.

"There is no suggestion that this is a terrorist related incident."

The man is expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday.

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
