John Barrowman injured in fall from panto horse at Glasgow SECC

The TV and theatre star is appearing alongside The Krankies in Jack and the Beanstalk.

John Barrowman: The actor was injured in a fall at the SECC during panto performance with the Krankies.

TV star John Barrowman has been taken to hospital in Glasgow after injuring himself in a fall from a horse during a panto performance.

He complained of back pain during the matinee performance of Jack and the Beanstalk on Friday at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC).

It is believed he had mounted the live horse in the production, before it bucked him off.

He told the crowd that he was not feeling well and that the animal had been "spooked" during the show. Mr Barrowman then left the stage and the panto was postponed for 40 minutes before his understudy took over.

Mr Barrowman has been taken to the Western Infirmary in Glasgow after the incident.

At the end of the show on Friday, a member of the cast told the audience that Mr Barrowman had "no broken bones, just bruises".

The Glasgow-born actor and performer, who grew up in America, is due to end his run in the show on Sunday, after it started on December 15.

An SECC spokeswoman said: "At this afternoon’s performance of Jack and The Beanstalk at the SECC, John Barrowman, who plays Jack in the production, was replaced by understudy Greg Barrowman following a fall from a horse on stage.

"As a precaution John was taken to hospital. Despite some bruising, John will hopefully return to the show tomorrow afternoon.

"In this evening’s show the role of Jack will be played by John’s cousin and understudy Greg Barrowman."

Mr Barrowman is starring alongside the Krankies in the panto, while he has previously starred in Doctor Who and Torchwood.

He has appeared in Aladdin and Robinson Crusoe in the past two years alongside the Scottish comedy couple.

Janette and Ian Krankie made their return to the stage for the panto season in 2010, after she nearly died in an on-stage accident in 2004.

The panto star suffered a fractured skull in a fall from a beanstalk at the Pavilion Theatre in Glasgow.
