Motivated Macedonia confident of getting a result against Scotland

Macedonia head coach Cedomir Janevski has warned Scotland his side are heading into tomorrow's World Cup qualifier at Hampden with plenty of confidence after running Croatia close.

The Macedonians were unfortunate to leave Zagreb empty-handed on Friday night, with a goal from Nikica Jelavic all that separated the two sides.

Having performed well against the Group A top seeds, Janevski says motivation is high within his camp ahead of the clash at Hampden, against a Scotland side who were held to a goalless draw at home against Serbia on Saturday.

He said: "We played very well against Croatia. Even though we didn't take anything from that game, we now have more confidence.

"Scotland might be favourites at home for this game but we have confidence from the last game and we will try for a good performance and to take the points also from Glasgow.

"We know that playing against Scotland when they are at home is not an easy game for anybody.

"I saw the game against Serbia on Saturday and they are a very compact team, they have some experience and young players, with a lot of character.

"They also have the supporters behind them and their help is like a 12th player.

"They have very good counter-attacks and they are dangerous at dead balls.

"It's going to be a tough game but we also have our ambitions. I have confidence in my players. They are motivated and that gives me a good feeling."

The pressure is now on Craig Levein's men to deliver a win following the goalless stalemate at Hampden at the weekend.

Asked if he was surprised by that result from the Scots, Janevski said: "Scotland had opportunities to win the game but we had the same problem against Croatia. It's football.

"The chances you create, you have to score. Without scoring goals, you can't win the game.

"I don't know if they can play better or not. They have potential to beat everyone at home."

Janevski - who replaced John Toshack as boss last month - says his ambitions for the section have not changed after their performance against Croatia.

He said: "Before the start of this qualification, our motivation was to go into every game and have a good performance.

"It's a tournament of ten games and we want to get as many points as possible. But where we will get those points, I don't know."
