People honour the fallen across the country on Armistice day

Major events took place in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen on Armistice day.

Events across Scotland took place to mark Armistice day.

Today at 11am, people across the country fell silent to mark the end of the First World War.

Special ceremonies will be held in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh - which was attended by the Lord Provost.

Poppy wreaths were laid to pay respects to those who had fallen in service of the country.

Before, during and after services, Poppyscotland's 10,000-strong team of volunteers across the country were hard at work collecting for the charity. 


In Edinburgh, more than 130 volunteers - including Army cadets, Air cadets and Navy Officer cadets - manned the key points all over the city

Fund raising events for PoppyScotland also took place.

Saturday evening will bring a charity fun run to the Kelpies, which will be lit red, to raise money for the armed forces.

In London, the Lord Mayor's show coincided with a Remembrance service.

On Remembrance Sunday, Prince Charles will take the place of his mother and lay the traditional wreath at the Cenotaph.


It is the first time the Prince of Wales will take on the role since the Queen announced she would be reducing some of her royal duties.

Further events across Scotland will take place on Remembrance Sunday.

In Edinburgh, the Lord Provost will be joined by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and fellow politicians, as well as members of the Armed Forces community, for a ceremony at the Stone of Remembrance to mark Remembrance Sunday.
