Police are investigating after two men were sprayed with a noxious substance in a "vicious" attack at a cash machine in Musselburgh.

The men were left needing hospital treatment after the assault on North High Street, which took place between 7.15pm and 7.40pm on Saturday.

The pair were at the ATM when they were approached by someone and sprayed with the substance. Police Scotland said both suffered minor injuries to their faces and eyes and were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward, particularly anyone who saw the two victims on North High Street.

Detective Gavin Morrison of Dalkeith CID said: "This was a vicious attack on these two men which resulted in them having treatment for injuries to their faces and eyes.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who saw them around the time of this attack and who may have information about their attacker that can help us with our inquiries."

The injured men are described as being white and around 35 years old. One of them is of medium build, 5ft 9in tall with short brown hair. He was wearing as dark blue and white top with grey trousers.

The second man is 5ft 8in tall and was wearing a black top. No description is available of the attacker.
