Prayers have been said for a Fife grandmother who was found beaten to death in her own home.

Mary Logie, known as Rae, was active in Leven Parish Church and on Sunday morning parishioners gathered and held a moment's silence for the 82-year-old.

She was found around 8pm on Tuesday at her home in Green Gates, Leven, in Fife, after not arriving at a planned hospital visit to see a friend.

Reverend Gilbert Nisbet said the community was in shock at the killing. He told STV News: "They are shocked and are looking to answers as to who may have done this and whether it was done locally, whether it was someone she knew, I think everyone's concerned about that at the present moment.

"There's a certain alarm that this could happen in this community, its quite a close knit community and a lot of people know each other well and have known each other for many years.

"She was an active member of the church and I was speaking to some of the people who sat round about her before the service and they are really very upset as you can imagine and just appalled that such a thing could happen."

A murder investigation into her death is ongoing and parts of the street where she lived remain sealed off by police.

STV News understands she suffered serious head injuries caused by the rolling pin and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Scottish Ambulance Service. She had previously been seen alive around 8am on Tuesday.

Anyone with information which could help police find her killer has been urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
