An elderly pedestrian has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in the west of Edinburgh on Tuesday morning.

The incident happened just before 8.20am on Balgreen Road, near to the junction with Corstorphine Road.

The woman was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by ambulance suffering from minor injuries.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Police in Edinburgh are currently in attendance on Corstorphine Road following a report of a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a car shortly before 8.20am on January 12.

"An elderly woman has been taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with minor injuries.

"The thoroughfare was temporarily closed in both directions between the junction with Balgreen Road and Western Corner but has now reopened."
