A man and a woman have suffered serious injuries after being attacked in Glenrothes.

The incident happened on Malcolm Road at around 9pm on Monday.

The 38-year-old man and 33-year-old woman were taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy for treatment.

Community Inspector Joanne McEwan said: "This was a serious incident resulting in a man and a woman receiving significant injuries, however, I would like to reassure the public that we are pursuing a number of positive lines of inquiry.

"I recognise that incidents of this nature can cause concern within the community but I would like to stress that this was not a random attack and we have no reason to believe there is a risk to the wider community.

"In the meanwhile, officers will be carrying out additional high-visibility patrols and inquiries in the vicinity of Malcolm Road."

Anyone who may have information about the incident is asked to contact Glenrothes Police on 101.
