A thief has stolen a wallet from another man at a bus stop in Edinburgh city centre.

The 32-year-old victim, who has a "noticeable slouch", was walking on the gardens side of Princes Street at around 2.15am on Sunday when he was approached by a man.

The suspect grabbed the man and stole his wallet before making off towards South St Andrews Street.

He is described as white, around 20 to 30 years old, around 5ft 6in, clean-shaven, with a slim build and dark short hair. He was wearing a dark waist-length jacket with a full length zip, jeans and black headphones.

Detective constable Iain Wallace, of Gayfield Police Station, said: "I'm asking anyone who saw something unusual at the bus stop between the Balmoral Hotel and Waverley Bridge around that time to get in touch.

"The victim walks with a noticeable slouch so this might jog the memory of anyone who passed by. It was a frightening and unprovoked attack and we're eager to catch the person responsible."

Those with any information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
