A mother killed in a road accident while her three sons were sitting beside her in a car has been named locally as Kirsty Parker.

The 34-year-old from Denholm was the driver of a Vauxhall Zafira which collided with a Peugeot 207 on the A698 road near the village on Thursday afternoon.

The former waitress, originally from Kirkcudbright, was pronounced dead at the scene while her boys aged 18 months, nine and 12 were taken to Edinburgh's Royal Hospital for Sick Children before being released.

The 26-year-old male driver of the Peugeot was treated for "non life threatening injuries" at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "The ­incident happened on the A698 and involved a Vauxhall Zafira and Peugeot 207.

"The 34-year-old female driver of the Vauxhall Zafira was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Three boys were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries."
