A body found on the coastline near the Firth of Forth has been confirmed as that of missing Edinburgh teenager Jasmine Macquaker.

The 14-year-old had gone missing from her Edinburgh home on Sunday, prompting a large police search.

Jasmine had last been seen getting off a train at Dalmeny train station, near South Queensferry, on Sunday night.

Her body was discovered on the coastline at North Queensferry, on the Fife side of the Firth of Forth, on Monday morning and her death is not being treated as suspicious.

Jasmine's family said in a statement: "Mr and Mrs Macquaker have been appraised with all the facts concerning Jasmine’s last hours.

"They are extremely grateful for all the support from the police in this tragic case as well as support from friends.

"At this stage, understandably, they request that everyone respect their privacy to grieve in peace at this very difficult time."

A police spokesman added: "The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."
