Detectives investigating the death of a London woman whose body was found in Edinburgh have said an appeal has been "well received".

Police confirmed on Thursday that the remains discovered off Gogarstone Road on the outskirts of the city on January 9 were those of Saima Ahmed.

Ms Ahmed, 36, was reported missing from her London home on August 31.

Officers and her family are at a loss to explain why she travelled to Edinburgh and they have appealed for people to come forward with information about her final movements.

Detective chief inspector Martin Maclean said on Friday: "The appeal has been well received across the country.

"We’re hoping that people see this appeal and, no matter how small they think their information may be, we’re eager to hear from them. All it takes is one person who may hold a vital piece of information.

"I am confident that there is someone out there that will know something about Saima's trip to Scotland, which route she took or why she came to Edinburgh. I would urge them to get in touch."
