Music lovers have come up with a novel way of raising cash for charity - with bowls of soup.

The Edinburgh Soup event was held at the Grassmarket Project in Edinburgh on Thursday night.

Guests donated a minimum of £5 admission in exchange for an evening of musical entertainment and some warming soup and bread.

They enjoyed food donated by local cafes and bakeries, watched local bands and had their say on which local charitable project should benefit from the cash.

Positive Help Edinburgh, a charity which works with HIV and Hepatitis C sufferers, was this week's winning project. It hopes to use the cash to fund a befriending scheme in the city.

Organisers were inspired to run the events after hearing about a similar project in Detroit.

Previous music nights have brought in around £1000 each. The next Edinburgh Soup event will be in May.
