Police in Fife have confirmed that the 35-year-old man who died following a road accident near Upper Largo was Mark Kelbie from Edinburgh.

Officers responded to initial reports that a silver BMW had struck a wall and left the road at around 5am on Saturday morning.

The vehicle was believed to have been travelling towards Largoward along the A915 before the incident.

Emergency services rushed Mr Kelbie to nearby Victoria Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

A 24-year-old passenger was also taken to hospital, having sustained serious injuries. His condition is not believed to be life threatening, however.

Mr Kelbie's family issued the following statement through Police Scotland:

“Mark was a loving son, father and husband who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family are requesting privacy at this difficult time.”

The road reopened at 1.15pm this afternoon after police officers concluded their investigation of the scene.

Sergeant Jim Henry of the Road Policing Unit said: “Our condolences go to Mark’s family and friends and we’re working to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision.

"We're asking anyone who believes they may have seen a silver BMW in the area around this time, or anyone with information which can assist with our enquiries, to come forward."

Those with information are asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or make an anonymous report through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
