The family of a man who has been missing for more than a fortnight have made an emotional appeal for him to come home.

Matthew Elmer, 23, was last seen in the Craigshill area of Livingston, West Lothian, on Saturday, February 13.

He has not been in touch with anyone since and his family and friends have been desperately trying to find him by organising large-scale searches.

In an emotional appeal at Livingston Police Station on Monday, Matthew's parents said their fears were growing.

His father, Ian, said: "We are hugely, hugely, concerned. As a family, time is standing still for us. This is just a living nightmare and we just want out son home."

He said Matthew "wasn't quite himself" when he had spoken to him on video messaging service Facetime in the days leading up to his disappearance.

Mr Elmer, who travelled to Livingston from his home in Wales after his son went missing, added: "He hadn't slept for some time, his concentration levels weren't quite right.

"We are humbled by the huge response this has generated in the community. We cannot thank people enough for their ongoing efforts. It's brought us enormous comfort."

Matthew's mother Cathy described the situation as an "emotional roller coaster".

She said: "We just have to take things day by day. Matt, we're devastated. We just want you home."

Mr Elmer is white with blue eyes and dark brown hair, which is short at the sides and sometimes styled on top. He is 5ft 8in and has a slim build.

He was seen wearing a black jacket, black jogging trousers and white canvas laced-up trainers. He wears black studs in both ears and was wearing a grey woollen hat.

Anyone with information about Mr Elmer's whereabouts is encouraged to call police on 101.
