A delivery driver was assaulted and robbed of a takeaway by a man with a small child in his care.

The 41-year-old was about to deliver to a house in Musselburgh in East Lothian when he was approached by the man and child. The man became abusive towards the victim, who tried to go back to his car.

He followed the driver before assaulting him and stealing the takeaway.

Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, which took place on Mayfield Avenue on Friday between 8.30pm and 8.45pm.

Officers are particularly concerned the attacker had been with a young child at the time.

The suspect is white, 5ft 4in and was wearing dark clothing.

Constable Donald Kettrick said: "Thankfully, the victim did not sustain any serious injury but was understandably distressed at being attacked while simply doing his job.

"This incident was made all the more serious due to the fact the suspect had a child in his care during the assault and anyone who can help us identify this male is asked to contact police immediately.

"We're also urging anyone who saw the attack take place to get in touch. In particular, we are eager to trace the driver of a dark-coloured Audi who stopped and spoke to the victim at the scene."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or to make an anonymous report via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
