Concerns are growing for the safety of a missing Livingston man after major searches drew a blank.

Police have used extensive resources to look for Matthew Elmer, who has not been seen since Saturday, February 13, however no trace of him has been found.

The 23-year-old's devastated family made an emotional appeal on Monday to urge him to come home.

Now police in West Lothian have made a further call for the public's assistance to find Mr Elmer.

Specialist police resources including air support, dogs unit and specially trained search teams, have been used in the searches.

The Borders Mountain Rescue Team and Borders Water Rescue have also been drafted in to support the search, while Mr Elmer's friends have set up a Facebook page to appeal for information and arrange their own searches.

Officers said on Wednesday that they had found "no evidence" to establish Mr Elmer's whereabouts.

Residents of the Craigshill, Deadridge, Pumpherston, Uphall Station and Mid Calder areas of West Lothian are being asked to check their gardens, sheds and other outbuildings.

Sergeant Neill McLeman said: "I would first of all like to thank our communities within West Lothian and the wider public for their continued support and assistance as we continue with our efforts to trace Matthew.

"Despite the significant level of search activity carried out by police, partners and Matthew’s family and friends, he has not yet been found and we obviously grow more and more concerned for his welfare as time goes on.

"Matthew knows the Livingston area well and so I would ask residents throughout the region to check the external areas of their properties and contact us immediately should they find anything that may be pertinent to this investigation.

"Similarly, anyone with any further information as to where Matthew may be should also get in touch."

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101.
