A new task force has been set up to tackle some of Edinburgh’s worst potholes.

The city council announced it had set up a "dedicated team" of staff to co-ordinate a repairs programme.

Around £120,000 will be spent on improving main routes in the city centre, while £60,000 will be put towards works in the south of the capital.

The number of squads carrying out short-term emergency repairs will also increase temporarily from three to seven.

Edinburgh City Council transport convener Lesley Hinds, said: "We recognise there has been an increase in the number of potholes across the city over winter and now we’re addressing the issue.

"In addition to our ongoing roads repair programme, we are focusing our resources on a dedicated team of staff to manage our road repairs.

"This will allow us to target the city’s problem areas by getting permanent repairs ‘right first time’ which will reduce disruption."

She encouraged people to report damaged roads or pavements by calling on 0800 232323.
