A man has been charged over a hit-and-run collision that killed a pedestrian.

Alexander Wallace, 57, was struck by a car outside a restaurant on Comiston Road, Edinburgh, on October 8.

Mr Wallace, from Livingston, was believed to have fallen on to the road before being hit by the vehicle.

An extensive police inquiry was launched to trace the driver. Officers confirmed on Friday that a man had been charged under the Road Traffic Act. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

Detective Sergeant Mark McGraw said: "I would like to thank the members of the public who assisted with this investigation and our appeal.

"A 61-year-old man has subsequently been charged in connection with this incident and is expected to appear in court in due course."
