A man in his 70s has been found dead on the railway track near a station on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

The body was discovered at around 7am on Tuesday close to Dalmeny station, which serves South Queensferry.

Services between Edinburgh and Inverkeithing were delayed while investigations were carried out. ScotRail put on replacement buses to assist travellers throughout the morning.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Around 7am on Tuesday, March 15, the body of a man, believed to be aged in his 70s, was found on the railway line in the vicinity of Dalmeny.

"Inquiries are ongoing to establish his identity. There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a full report will be submitted to the local procurator fiscal."
