Four youngsters are under investigation after a child was allegedly threatened with a mallet in a school playground.

Police were called to Bathgate Academy in West Lothian at 1.20pm on Tuesday after receiving a report of threatening behaviour.

No one was hurt in the incident and officers escorted the youngsters off the grounds.

The four, who are not pupils at the school, were then taken to their home nearby.

A police spokeswoman said: "Inquiries are currently ongoing between local officers, including our dedicated school liaison officer, and partners to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident."
