A pilot narrowly avoided having to take evasive action after a laser was shone at his aircraft as he came in to land at Edinburgh Airport.

The incident on Sunday night at 7.40pm is the latest in a string of similar reports.

Police said the pilot was "affected and distracted" by the laser on the final approach to the airport.

Officers are yet to establish the location from which the laser was being shone.

On January 27, a laser pen was shone from Musselburgh Racecourse at an aircraft’s cockpit during its descent into Edinburgh Airport.

At the end of February, another laser device was aimed at a light aircraft as it approached Dundee Airport.

The person responsible for shining the device was in the Methil area of Fife.

A police spokesman said of the latest incident: "A pilot coming in to Edinburgh airport fortunately escaped having to take evasive action but was affected and distracted by a laser being shone at the aircraft for about ten seconds, whilst on approach to the airport."

Anyone with information about the latest is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
