A 15-year-old boy has been charged in connection with supplying drugs after a schoolgirl died after an incident at a house.

Dione Melville, 15, was at a house in West Lothian at the weekend when she fell ill and an ambulance was called.

She died shortly after and two of her friends, both girls aged 15, were taken to hospital from the property in East Calder at around 9.50am on Sunday.

Police confirmed a 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged, however it is yet to be established if it is linked to Dione's death.

A post-mortem examination on the schoolgirl is yet to take place and detectives are probing is drugs were involved.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in West Lothian arrested and charged a 15-year-old male in connection with the supply of drugs in the East Calder area on Sunday March 27."

Dione's headteacher and friends have paid tribute to the "ambitious young lady" who planned to start training as a hairdresser.

Lisa Grubb, West Calder High School acting headteacher, said: "Dione was a popular girl and this is clearly a very upsetting time for her friends and family.

"Dione was an ambitious young lady who had plans to work in hairdressing and in the beauty industry after leaving school in the summer.

"She was very focused on her future and the thoughts of the entire school community are with Dione’s family and friends at this incredibly sad time."
