The father of missing man Allan Byrant has been left "chilled" by threat to police supposedly by hackers Anonymous.

A video making threats against Police Scotland and officers in Glenrothes in particular was posted on a Facebook page to raise awareness.

Allan was last seen leaving a nightclub in Glenrothes in November 2013 and his family believe he has been murdered.

Father Allan Bryant Snr condemned the video and said: "It is quite chilling that someone has gone out of their way to make this.

"I don't want my son's name used this way. This is just a plain threat against Glenrothes police officers."

He deleted the video, which was posted under the web hackers' banner, straight away and believes the sender is someone with a grudge against the police.

In the first of two videos a male voice says: "This is a message to Police Scotland. We are aware of the lack of cooperation with the family of missing man Allan Byrant Jnr.

"As civil servants it is your responsibility to serve the needs of the public. All you have done is fail the Byrant family.

"This is a warning to Police Scotland and particularly Glenrothes police headquarters should you not do more to have the culprits that harmed Allan Bryant Jnr brought to justice then we are going to issue our own justice against you and your officers."

A second video names an individual police officer.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Police in Fife have been made aware of a communication that suggests reprisals towards officers in Glenrothes.

"The safety of the public and our officers is an absolute priority. Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this and respond appropriately.

"The missing person search for Allan Bryant remains the largest ever conducted within Fife. We continue to engage with the Bryant family to provide updates on our investigation and efforts to trace Allan.

"Anyone with information about Allan's whereabouts, or his movements after leaving Styx Nightclub in the early hours of November 3, 2013, who has not yet contacted police is urged to come forward immediately."
