A teenager needed surgery on two jaw fractures after suffering a violent assault near a bus stop.

The 17-year-old had just got off the number 3 Lothian Buses service at Bogwood Road in Mayfield, Midlothian, when he was attacked at around 5.45pm on Wednesday, March 30.

Police believe passengers on the Edinburgh-Mayfield bus would have witnessed the assault.

Detective constable William Dickson from Dalkeith CID said: "This was a particularly violent incident which has resulted in a teenage male suffering a double fracture which has required surgery.

"The bus he had been travelling on continued on its journey southbound and a number of people on that number 3 service would have witnessed this assault.

"I am keen to speak to any passengers who saw what happened and may be able to assist our enquiries."

Witnesses are asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
