The teenage victim of a fatal car crash which injured two elderly people has been named by police.

Lisa Bahmani, 18, had been driving a Hyundai Getz on the St Boswells to Jedburgh stretch of the A68 when it was involved in a collision with a Suzuki Ignis.

She suffered serious injuries and later died at the Borders General Hospital in Melrose.

The 71-year-old female driver of the Ignis is in a serious condition at the hospital while her 78-year-old passenger sustained a chest injury.

Ms Bahmani's family described her as a "much-loved daughter, sister and friend".

In a statement issued by Police Scotland, her relatives said: "She was a special, loving girl who loved animals.

"Lisa will be sorely missed by all who knew her. We are grateful for all the messages of support."

Police closed the road for around ten hours after the crash on Wednesday night at 8pm.

Witnesses are urged to call 101.
