A lorry crashed on the Edinburgh city bypass, leading to ten-mile tailbacks on the M8.

There were nine-mile queues on the A720 and ten-mile queues on the eastbound M8 from Junction 3 to Junction 1 after the incident on Tuesday morning.

Queues of up to two miles were also reported on the M9 southbound at junction 1A to the M8.

The city bypass was closed eastbound from the Gogar junction.

The TNT delivery vehicle collided with the central reservation of the A720 near the Calder junction after its tyre blew.

The driver and his passenger were not injured in the incident on the westbound carriageway, which took place at around 7.15am.

The road was reopened in time for rush hour on Tuesday, however there is a 40mph speed restriction.

Single lane closures will be in place on the eastbound and westbound carriageways between 8pm and 6am for several nights from Tuesday for emergency barrier repair.

The 40mph speed restriction will remain in place until the barrier is completely repaired.
