An elderly woman was found unconscious and two residents rescued after a fire broke out in an Edinburgh flat.

Fire crews were called to the ground floor property on Stenhouse Drive in the west of the city at 6.50am on Wednesday.

The unconscious woman was rescued and given oxygen before being taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Firefighters also rescued two residents of neighbouring flats as the communal stair was smoke-logged.

Two fire engines and a height vehicle were used to tackle the fire, which was extinguished at 7.30am.
