A crash between two cars in the Borders has left an elderly man dead and two others injured.

A red Vauxhall Meriva collided with a silver Honda CR-V on the A72 near the entrance to Cardrona village around 11.10am on Saturday.

Three men, aged 87, 71 and 42 were taken to hospital, with the 87-year-old passing away a short time later.

Police now wish to speak to anyone who may have seen the crash or helped the men.

Sergeant Neil Inglis, of the Road Policing Unit at Galashiels, said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who stopped to assist and have yet to come forward."
