A three-month old baby girl has died in hospital days after she was found injured at a homeless unit.

Sophia Williams passed away on Sunday in the Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh.

She had been under the care of medical staff since Monday May 30, after taking unwell within a facility for homeless families in West Main Street in Broxburn, West Lothian.

Chief inspector Stevie Dolan, area commander for West Lothian, said: "First and foremost, I wish to pass on my sincere condolences to Sophia's family.

"This is an extremely tragic case and we are treating her death as unexplained at this time.

"I can, however, offer my personal reassurance that a thorough police investigation is now underway in order to establish the full set of circumstances that led up to her untimely passing."
