A man killed in a crash in Peebles in the Borders has been named.

Robert Fleming Kerr, 87, of Glasgow, was a passenger in a Vauxhall Meriva when it was in a collision with a Honda on the A72 on Saturday.

Mr Kerr was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow but he later died due to the injuries he suffered.

The 71-year-old male driver of the Meriva was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he continues to be treated for neck and back injuries.

Meanwhile, the 42-year-old male driver of the Honda was taken to Borders General Hospital before later being released.

The accident took place near the junction of Horsburgh Road.

Sergeant Neil Inglis said: "We are still working to establish what happened to result in this collision and I would ask anyone who was on the A72 near Peebles at around 11.10am on Saturday morning to come forward if they remember seeing anything that can assist with our investigation.

"In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this collision should also contact police immediately."
