Firefighters cut an elderly couple free after a crash on the A68 north of Jedburgh.

A 69-year-old woman has been taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary hospital after being rescued from a crashed Toyota.

Her injuries are being described by police as "serious but not thought to be life-threatening."

A man was freed from the same car while a 24-year-old from the other crashed vehicle, a Volkswagen, has been taken to Borders General Hospital.

The two-vehicle crash happened shortly before 8am and has closed the road in both directions between Bonjedward and Cleikhimin.

Police, firefighters and ambulance crews attended at the scene and the road is still closed.
