The family of an 81-year-old man who died in a collision with a lorry has paid tribute to him.

William Downie, from Lamancha, was struck by an HGV on the A701 south of Leadburn at around 12.20pm on Thursday, June 16th.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement issued through Police Scotland, his family said: "We are devastated at our loss of a much loved husband, dad, gramps, great-gramps, brother and uncle.

"He will be sorely missed and we are comforted by the messages from the community, who valued his help and friendship over the many years."

Sergeant Gary Taylor of the road policing unit said: "Our thoughts are with the family of William Downie at this very sad time and we will continue to offer them support as and when they need it.

"Our inquiries into the circumstances that led up to this collision are ongoing and I ask anyone with relevant information to contact police on 101 if not already done so."
