A woman who died after a car flipped and smashed into a fence has been named by police.

Michelle Bennett, 47, was a passenger in the back seat of the car when the driver lost control in the Borders on Friday afternoon.

The female driver of the Suzuki Ignis and two other women passengers and a man were injured and taken to hospital after the one-vehicle smash on the B6350 near Redden Farm.

One of the women was airlifted to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where her condition is described as serious but stable. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the smash.

A statement from the force said: "Police Scotland has named the woman who died in a road traffic collision near Kelso last week as Michelle Bennett.

"The 47-year-old, who lived in Berwick-Upon-Tweed, lost her life after the silver Suzuki Ignis she was travelling in overturned on the B6350 close to Redden Farm at around 4:15pm on Friday.

"Another female passenger who was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh remains in a serious but stable condition.

"Meanwhile, the female driver and a further two passengers, a man and a woman, were taken to the Borders General Hospital however their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

"Road policing officers are continuing their inquiries into this matter and anyone who witnessed this incident is asked to contact 101."
