A man has been detained and held for deportation after an immigration raid at an Edinburgh newsagent.

Officers from the Home Office's immigration enforcement criminal and financial investigations team raided Calder Supermarket in Calder Park on Thursday morning.

The team, supported by local police officers, questioned staff to establish whether or not they had the right to live and work in the UK.

A Home Office spokeswoman said: "A 26-year-old Pakistani man who had overstayed his student visa was arrested and transferred to immigration detention pending removal from the UK.

"Inquiries into the business are continuing."
