A man has been left with "life changing" injuries after a crash between two cars near Hawick.

The crash took place on the A7 at the junction to Appletreehall around 11.45am on Saturday.

A silver Fiat Siecento travelling south towards Hawick collided with a blue Land Rover Defender which was turning right.

Paramedics were called and both driver were taken to Borders General Hospital.

Officers said the 86-year-old man driving the Land Rover suffered minor injuries, while the 34-year-old driver of the Fiat suffered life-changing injuries.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to coem forward. Sergeant Andy Gibb said: "Our inquiries into this collision are at an early stage and we would welcome information from any members of the public who witnessed this collision or who saw either the silver Fiat Siecento or the Land Rover Defender before the collision happened at 11.45 am.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact us on 101."
