Thieves caused £80,000 of damage at a sewage plant in Midlothian and stole a dumper truck

They broke into the premises on Station Road, Gorebridge, between 12.30pm on Saturday and 7.30am on Monday.

They attempted to steal a JCB digger, forklift digger and dumper truck before stealing another truck.

It was found abandoned near the site but the suspects are still at large.

Sergeant Stuart Aitchison said: "As a result of this break in, the attempted theft of several plant vehicles and the successful theft of one dumper truck, approximately £80,000 worth of damage has been caused and we are pursuing various lines of inquiry to trace whoever was responsible.

"If you remember seeing any suspicious activity around the site over the weekend or in the early hours of Monday morning then please contact police immediately."
