A man was threatened at knifepoint by a robber who demanded he hand over his belongings.

The 40-year-old was walking on a footpath in Eskside East, Musselburgh, on Thursday when he was approached by the armed man at around 4pm.

He struggled with him and refused to give him any personal items, before the suspect fled the scene empty handed.

The suspect is described as white, between 5ft 8in and 6ft 2in with a medium build and light brown hair in a ponytail.

He is believed to have been wearing blue jeans and a dark t-shirt.

Detective constable Jordan Sharp said: "The victim did not require any medical attention following this incident but was left very shaken and upset as a result.

"Anyone who was around the Eskside East area or the Electric Bridge on Thursday afternoon last week and remembers seeing anything suspicious should contact police immediately.

"We would also ask that anyone who recognises the description of the suspect and who can help us identify him also gets in touch."

Witnesses should contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
