A flight bound for Chicago has been diverted to Edinburgh Airport for the second time in as many days.

The United Airlines UA2081 flight declared an emergency as it flew over the Irish Sea on Wednesday.

The same Boeing 767-300 was forced to land at Edinburgh Airport on Tuesday due to a fuel leak after leaving from Heathrow.

The latest flight, which had taken off from Edinburgh, landed safely on Runway 24 shortly after 3.30pm on Wednesday.

Emergency services are at the scene.

A spokesman for the airline said: "United Airlines flight UA2081 from Edinburgh to Chicago today, which was being repositioned and was not carrying any customers, returned to Edinburgh Airport after take-off because of a mechanical issue."
