Street closed after sinkhole opens up overnight at Haymarket
Edinburgh City Council has shut Magdala Crescent at its junction with Haymarket Terrace.
The appearance of a sinkhole overnight has forced Edinburgh City Council to close a street at Haymarket.
Magdala Crescent was shut at its junction with Haymarket Terrace on Monday after the hole, thought to have been caused by a burst water pipe, opened up.
Edinburgh City Council has warned the route could be shut for some time because of the gap, which is a few feet wide.
Earlier this year, a 30ft-wide sinkhole in North Lanarkshire forced nearby residents to leave their homes.
Cows also had to be rescued from a field in Midlothian when a mineshaft collapsed in May, while a street in Aberdeen was closed when a small sinkhole opened up beneath a taxi rank in January.
