A man has been arrested after a stabbing in Edinburgh city centre.

Sean McGovern was assaulted on Waterloo Place, off Princes Street, on July 27.

The 32-year-old had been waiting for a G4S vehicle to pick him up and return him to Castle Huntly open prison when the alleged attack took place.

Mr McGovern, who is serving a sentence for dealing heroin and firing a shotgun, was treated at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh before being returned to prison.

A 31-year-old man has now been charged in connection with the incident.

He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday.
