A lottery winner has claimed their £1m EuroMillions prize almost six months after buying the winning ticket.

The lucky winner bought the Mega Friday ticket, which also includes trip to the United States, for the draw on March 25.

National Lottery operator Camelot confirmed the winner, who lives in the Edinburgh South constituency area, came forward to claim the ticket this month.

No further details will be released about the person unless they decide to go public with the win.

A National Lottery spokeswoman said: "We're delighted that the winner of this amazing prize has now come forward and we hope that they will enjoy their win.

"It would have been awful if the ticket-holder had missed out on this substantial and life-changing amount of money.

"We would like to remind all National Lottery players to check their tickets every time they play."
