A man has appeared in court to face various charges in connection with a stabbing in Edinburgh.

David Togher, 31, made a brief appearance on petition at Edinburgh Sheriff Court following the incident on Waterloo Place last month.

Togher, from Bonnyrigg in Midlothian, was charged with numerous offences including assault to severe injury and impairment, and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

He made no plea or declaration at the brief hearing on Tuesday and was remanded in custody.

The case was committed for further examination and it is expected to call again within a week.

Togher was arrested on Monday after the incident on July 27.

Sean McGovern, 32, was waiting for a G4S vehicle to pick him up and return him to Castle Huntly open prison when the incident took place.
