A man who died after being found injured behind an Edinburgh tenement was a workman who had fallen from a property above, it has emerged.

The 56-year-old, who has not been named, had been carrying out restoration work on a flat in Fettes Row in the New Town area when he fell around 40ft into the grounds below on Tuesday at 10.15am.

It is understood that several people from nearby businesses rushed to deliver first aid to the man.

He was later pronounced dead by the emergency services.

Police are not treating the incident as suspicious but a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
