Thieves have stolen jewellery from two Midlothian homes in linked break-ins.

Valuables worth more than £1000 were taken from a house in Kerr Avenue, Dalkeith, on Monday between 5pm and 11pm.

Jewellery was also taken from a second house, in the town's Eskview Grove, between Friday, August 5 and Wednesday. The total value of these items is not yet known.

Officers say the break-ins are linked and have urged witnesses to come forward.

Constable Kris Burns said: "The occupiers from both properties were left deeply upset at the theft of their possessions and we are conducting various local enquiries to trace those responsible.

"Anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious around Kerr Avenue or Eskview Grove, or who has any other information that can assist with this inquiry is asked to contact police immediately."

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 or make an anonymous report to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
