A man has been arrested and charged on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs after a hit-and-run.

No one was hurt in the collision,which took place on Eskbank Road in Dalkeith, Midlothian, on Wednesday.

A 45-year-old man was stopped at nearby Hardengreen a short time later and cannabis was seized from his car.

He was charged for driving under the influence of drugs, possession of drugs, and failing to stop.

The man is due to appear in court at a later date.

Inspector Neil Mitchell, of Dalkeith police, said: "Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs puts not only the driver but other road users at risk and such offences will not be tolerated.

"Road policing officers regularly monitor all main arterial routes and any motorists found to be driving in a manner that puts the public in danger will be appropriately dealt with."
