Tributes have been paid to a "loving and gentle woman" who died in a two-car crash in Midlothian.

Teacher Rodica Pamphilon, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene on the A68 south of Dalkeith on Friday, August 5.

Ms Pamphilon had been travelling south in her Ford Fiesta when it was involved in a crash with a Land Rover Discovery Sport near the Cousland junction.

A 62-year-old man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

Romania-born Ms Pamphilon, who lived at Ormiston in East Lothian, was a teacher and translator who had lived in Scotland for more than a decade.

In a statement issued by Police Scotland, her family said: "Rodica was a loving and gentle woman who was loved by so many.

"We are devastated by her loss in such a tragic way. She will be so dearly missed."

Officers are continuing inquiries into the crash and anyone with information is asked to come forward.
