An 80-year-old man was assaulted after a disagreement with a fellow dog walker in the Borders.

The pensioner had been walking his Border terrier along the High Street in Coldstream at around 1pm on Tuesday when a Labrador came running towards them.

He tried to push it away but the dog's owner caught up with it and pushed the elderly man on to a parked car.

Constable Fraser Mortimer said: "This was an appalling incident which could have resulted in a very serious injury for the man who was very shaken but fortunately only slightly hurt.

"This was a busy time on the High Street and I'd urge anyone who saw what happened to come forward especially the people who helped the man after he fell."

The suspect is described as male, in his 40s, around 5ft 8 in tall, with slim build and messy hair,

He was wearing a T-shirt and trousers at the time of the incident.

Those with information are asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
