A shopkeeper was injured after a robber threatened him and made off with cash during a "distressing incident" in East Lothian.

The 21-year-old was working behind the till at the Mini Market on Elphinstone Road, Tranent.

The robber entered the shop on Thursday night at around 8.15pm, and made threats to staff before grabbing money.

The shopkeeper suffered minor injuries but did not need medical treatment.

Police said the robber was described as white man in his in his 40s, around 6ft 2in with a medium build.

He had short brown hair and dark stubble and was wearing black boots, dark jeans, a dark jacket, dark scarf and dark peaked cap.

Detective inspector Keith Mackay said: "This was a very distressing incident for the staff members involved and we're conducting numerous enquiries in the local area.

"We'd urge anyone who may have seen the suspect, or who recognises his description, to come forward as soon as possible."
